I was taking a group of six teenagers (16 years old) and purchased a couple of copies of the guide before the trip. The guide gave me and the teens a very good idea of the activities available. Setting the priorities was another story since the teens just wanted to be in the action but with the guide we were able to to reach a great balance having action and cultural experiences at the same time.The guide is very well organized and simple to use. Given teenager sleep patterns and interests, I did not start too early and kept some flexibility in the schedule prepared with the guide. The most important activities such as Sagrada Famiia (towers and tour were great), I purchased tickets in advance as the guide suggests.I would love to see this guide for other cities! I like this little book. Has something for everyone. I like the grade school and high school scholarships too. I'll be making a list of scholarships I qualify for (female, international grad student) and posting it on my wall to keep up to date with deadlines and requirements etc. To win scholarships you have to be planning ahead of time, a hard worker, diligent, organised and looking high and low. This little book helps you get into that mind frame!

Excellent book on how to qualify for college grants and scholarships. A really detailed list of scholarship programs is included. 5 stars

Recalling Tardi's great work from the American edition of Heavy Metal magazine back in it's early years in the late seventies, I had to assume that the storyteller had lost some of his edge over the years. The truth is he's a pleasant surprise with that same sharp wit and cunning storytelling skill, and still a master of the form. He's lost none of the edge that made him a popular import all those years ago. What is striking about this collection of two tales that intertwine with rich complexity and humane brevity is that by the end of the tale Adele remains an enigma full of questions unanswered and a lot hinted at, remaining unresolved. The cynical wit and razor's edge escapes as well as the delightfully off kilter twists and turns makes this a fun, engaging read with promises of a lot more to come.I hope there will be at least several more episodes of this series to read over the coming years.I can't wait to see the film, subtitles and all.

Lovely print job. And Jaques Tardi is himself. :) Thoroughly complex and confusing stories deserving multiple readings. Silly plots that are pretty entertaining. And wonderfully stocky artwork.

Similar story to the movie.

I was given the french original many years ago, and fell in love with the art. I have gradually made up a story to explain what is going on - with the help of my high school french, and the occasional french visitor. Well, nothing comes close to finally reading the real thing in English. The story does not disappoint, and Adele is a complex, interesting character. I can't wait for the next volume to learn more about her. The hardback is well produced, and the price at Amazon is excellent. (Also, the trailers for the Besson film look great!)

The story is a little bit muddled, the characterizations are not strong, and the dialogue is not smart or funny. Nevertheless, the artwork is nothing short of stunning and exquisitely detailed. For that reason alone this volume is worth checking out. I can only hope that the series improves in the next volume.

I saw the film on Qatar Airways and searched Amazon for the DVD but found this instead - and in English!!! Now this has become one of my most-prized possessions. The story is awesome as well.

I had a good laugh when reading about Pauli's very funny third principle of things breaking down in laboratories in the presence of theoretical physicists. When a scientist's experiment went wrong, he wrote a letter to Pauli. Pauli wrote back that he was in the train at that time and the train had a brief halt at the station in the city where the experiment was being conducted, suggesting the failure of experiment due to his presence in the city station at that time. Really good humor !

Excellent history or the period, with a personal experience touch to it. Some of the translation is a bit awkward, so that I had to re-read sentences a few times to determine what I though he was trying to say. The translations make for some interesting analogies, and I really liked the first-person description of events. I'm reading "Mr. Tompkins in Paperback" now.

Gamow was not only a brilliant physicist, he also had a rare ability write in a very understandable and emminently entertaining fashion. His great prowess in his field as well as his personal involvement with many of the people featured in this book makes this quite a unique reading experience.

This is a "fun book" written by an author who lived during a fascinating time in physics. Gamow was a preeminent physicist himself, and knew most of his contemporaries. His sketches are priceless and his writing style is engaging. A highly recommended book!

This is probably the best introduction to Quantum Physics that I have ever seen. Gamow had a knack for explaining science concepts in accessible and engaging ways that probably surpasses Richard Feynman (who put considerable effort into explaining his concepts to beginners). In particular, he knows when and where to pull back from the mathematical trees to illustrate the more conceptual forest. Also, his hand drawn diagrams and graphs are just downright quaint.

I first read George Gamow in the 1950's when I was a college undergraduate. I was a philosophy student who was trying to take advanced physics courses. My grades rose from C's to B's, and I attribute it all to Gamow's clarity. I recently bought new copies of his books to provide background for an informal presentation I may have to make.I have always been grateful for the power of Gamow's pedagogy.

A fine book that often seemed too detailed about the physics behind their great discoveries. A college physics professor would love this book!

Even if you don't understand the math fully, the ideas are still very clearly presented. Also an interesting look into the personalities of physics' super stars
