This book is part of a two part series but should be combined. Both books provide very thin content. The author throws in several plugs for his accounting firm throughout and the material is written from that standpoint.

My wife and I got the chance to read this book at the perfect time, and we're so glad we did! We are 2 months from closing on our own dental practice. We have so many questions about what to do and when, and Brian's book "How to Buy a Dental Practice- Volume 1" and this new book ("Volume 2") have both been extremely helpful! The first volume is definitely a must-have and deals a lot with finding and getting ready to buy a practice. This volume continues where the other left off and explains what to do right before and after you buy a practice.This book covers topics such as: how to be a good boss, leader, and communicator; how or when to make (or not make) changes in the practice; what needs to be in place to make sure you'll have cash flow from day one; and all sorts of considerations needed to make things run smoothly right off the bat. This book is very well written and gives a great guide on steps once you've found a practice. It contains items that can be overlooked during the process due to the overwhelming nature of buying a dental practice. I worked directly with Brian as well for buying in to a practice, and he was super helpful in all aspects of buying a practice as well as made himself available for any questions. Highly recommend both of his books as well as his expertise in accounting.

Let me start by saying this was a good book. A great mystery with lots of twists. What I had a problem with was the way the book was laid out. I had read the first in the series, Dying Breath, and noticed that there were choppy transitions from one scene to another. It was much worse in Dead Before Dark. You are reading about Lucinda, and the very next line you're switched to a scene with maybe the killer, or Randy without a break in the narrative. It made dialogue hard to follow, and the quick change had me going back a paragraph to try to figure out what was going on. An extra line or two between transitions would have made the story easier to follow. As it was, it made the story feel frantic. Unfortunately, though the author's other books sound intriguing, I'll not be buying any. I read to be entertained, not confused.

I enjoyed the previous book, Dying Breath, and eagerly looked forward to the continuation of the story, but found Dead Before Dark to be disappointing.Early in the book the killer leaves a cleverly hidden clue at the first crime scene. The author must have forgotten about it because it was never found or mentioned again. After waiting for it to be discovered for hundreds of pages, and wondering what new twist would be introduced, that was a letdown.There are some inconsistencies in the book, but the one I found the most disturbing was when Lucinda sees a key detail during a vision, and even has a conversation about it later. But even later when someone tells her about it, this was suddenly new information to her.When the first numbers clue appeared, I immediately knew what they represented, and found the length of time it took them to figure it out very frustrating.There were too many simultaneous stories. Although I liked having the Hastings family around, they really didn't serve much purpose. After a while it became annoying whenever the story would switch back to them. They didn't contribute much and there wasn't anything exciting going on with them. The Ava connection wore thin pretty quickly.I waited with eager anticipation for the killer's identity to be revealed. There weren't too many potential candidates to choose from, but it kept me guessing as to why it could be this one and not that one. In the end, it was a big disappointment.The "romance" was danced around throughout the book but never really got off the ground.The book was too long and drawn out. Then after nearly 500 pages, it ended pretty abruptly. Things weren't wrapped up nicely with a pretty bow. Some things were left hanging, others weren't mentioned again. Possibly for a third installment? Even what did get wrapped up was done hastily and left me feeling unsatisfied and disappointed. It reminded me of the way Mary Higgins Clark ends her books, and it's the reason I don't read them anymore.

To fully appreciate this story, you must read the 1st book. With that said, this book was ABSOLUTELY SPELLBINDING, COULD NOT / WOULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!....twist and turns left and right. Just when u think you've got it figured out, another twist and you find out ur wrong.Recommend this read to anyone / anyone who likes mystery and suspense.I loved that I was able to follow all of the different characters and enjoy it at the same time. That doesn't happen to often with most stories with extended characters, normally u get lost with who did what and where and how but Wendy has managed to keep all characters in the storyline, making sense and doesn't lose the effect or intensity of the story.

I really enjoyed reading this book andlook forward to the next book on her long list of exciting mysteries.

I decided to write because I had never read a book by this writer till now. I have read mystery for well over 20 years and I don't know why I never checked out her books. I am glad I did. I thought it was well paced I didn't skip to the back of the book to see who the killer was because I thought I had it narrowed down pretty good. I was wrong and that was great. I t takes off pretty much right away. I read it every chance I got and only put it down once because of eye strain(need new glasses) I recommend this book to anyone that reads Lisa Jackson Mary Higgins Clark or Tess Gerritson. I'm starting my next book by her right away.

This is the fourth book I have read by Wendy Corsi Straub, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have read it over two days, I could not put it down until I reached the end. I am so taken with this author I have downloaded or bought the hard copies of all her books in the last week. I have become a huge fan of Ms Straub she reminds me of Mary Higgins Clark's earlier books when she WAS a page turning Author.

I'm such a fan of this author because she more often than not gives us such a surprise ending. I love the suspense. This book was good but certainly not her best. The suspense just wasn't there. I think this is a bout the tenth book of hers I've read and will continue until I've read them all.

The suspense, the characters, the story, all top notch. Wendi Corsica Staub is a genius! I can't wait for her next book!!!

I've read a few books about reuse, and they all conver certain aspects of a fairly complex topic. I found this book useful in that it provides an overall framework for thinking about the various facet of reuse. My only criticism is that this book does not go into enought detail in places. However, the authors have obviously done their research and present (at the time of writing) relevant references.

This is a great book to read if you want to understand all of the different facets of a reuse initiative - business, cultural and, to a lesser extent, technical.

I really enjoyed this, actually! Honestly, it sounded a lot like something I would write. Everything is very metaphorical and poetic. Seeing as this novel is a scant 128 pages, a lot has to fit in there so there's a good amount of reading between the lines to be done. This was one of my favorite books that I have read for my program thus far, however. If you take the time to look into the beautiful sentence structure that makes up this book, the themes (mainly childhood and coming-of-age) are developed with impeccable skill. If you don't like that sort of thing, though, this will get very tiresome, very fast. At the beginning, I wasn't paying attention to the word choice and was instead frustrated by the lack of obvious overarching plot. While this is a full novel because of it chronology and overarching themes and characters, it could also make it's way in the world as a short story collection. You do have to look in order to see what's there. Just to get you started, I'll give you a hint: in the beginning chapter, the author uses 'we' and repetition of sentence structure to emphasize that point while in the last chapters, there is a distinct use of 'I' (and generally separate pronouns).The Final Verdict:Though you have to dig a little to find it, there is a cache of gold at the center of this novel.4.5 stars

People often keep their unhappiness behind closed doors.We the Animals opens those doors. Wide.A little family background:-- A fourteen-year-old white girl gets pregnant by her sixteen-year-old Puerto Rican boyfriend.-- They drive to Texas to get married (they are from New York, and she’s too young to get married there).-- Over the course of three years, they pop out three kids.-- They move to upstate New York in search of a better life.-- She works the graveyard shift at a brewery; when he works, he works odd jobs. He’s better at drinking than working.-- The three kids, all boys, are wild and thick as thieves.At the start of the book, the unnamed narrator (who speaks in first person plural, referring to himself and his two brothers) is seven. His older brothers, Joel and Manny, are nine and ten, respectively. Paps calls the boys “mutts” (“You ain’t white and you ain’t Puerto Rican.”).Ma and Paps are reckless, abusive, desperate, young, and immature. They are still growing up, despite having the responsibility of three mouths to feed and minds to shape. Their parenting choices are questionable at times and atrocious at others–they smother the three boys with love and need in one moment and treat them like absolute s*** the next.The book (at a scant 128 pages, it’s more of a novella, really) is told in vignettes that span about a decade. There’s the time Ma comes home on the narrator’s birthday after having been beaten until she’s purple. There’s the time Paps shows the boys how to dance the mambo like a “purebred” in the kitchen. There’s the time Ma and the boys act like Gallagher in the kitchen, smashing tomatoes and tubes of lotion and bottles of ketchup until they’re covered in slime and goo and look like newborn babies. There’s the time Paps tries to teach Ma and the narrator how to swim by taking them to the middle of a lake and leaving them there to fend for themselves.Each chapter is like the telling of a distinct, vivid memory (some separated by days, others separated by years). They are snapshots that range from the joyful to the excruciating.As soon as I finished reading the book, I went online to find out if it is autobiographical. It seemed like Torres was drawing from personal and painful experience. It is frighteningly and heartbreakingly real. And, not surprisingly, there is a lot of truth in his novel. The author has said in interviews that the facts are autobiographical, but the incidents are fictionalized.We the Animals takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. That’s a played-out description, I realize, but here it is apt. There were times when I laughed out loud and times when I felt sick to my stomach. There’s a lot of love in this book, but there’s also betrayal and abuse and devastation.Reading this book feels vaguely voyeuristic. You’re reading someone’s family secrets, and it feels a little wrong . . . but you want to do it anyway.Who should read it: fans of short fiction (this is more like a collection of related short stories than a traditional novel); people who like emotionally-wrought memoirs.

We The Animals is a somewhat autobiographical coming-of-age story of a young boy growing up in an unusual family environment. The boy lives with his two older brothers and his decisively young parents, who conceived their first child when the mother was fourteen years old. The parents are mixed race, with a Puerto Rican father and a white mother. The storyline follows the boys through various events that shape their upbringing, such as going to work with their father as a night watchman and feeling the judgment of one of his coworkers, or watching the dynamic of his mother and father as they fight physically, then show moments of passion and deep love for one another and the family that they have raised together. Torres himself hates to label this family as "dysfunctional," for it is simply the dynamics of any family that give rise to the struggle of providing for the family mixed with strong feelings of love.There are sincere moments of family love in novel. The narrator and his brothers are being bathed by their mother and father, who then fall into a spell of affection and leave the boys to shower each other with passion. Consequently, there are other moments, for example, when the narrator's mother has not heard from her husband in weeks and contemplates running away with her sons. The father repeatedly calls the house phone in front of the boys, who, however young they are, are forced to decide for their mother whether she should take them away or let them stay in the house and answer the phone calls of her husband. The novel is filled with absurdly warm moments, partnered only by those that are depressing and difficult to read. We the Animals is a heartbreaking, yet hopeful novel, for we are to understand that the narrator eventually finds himself and finds his way out of the confusing family life he had grown up in.Torres' voice is one that is unique in itself, he writes from the standpoint of a mixed race, queer individual. He hopes that the novel provides readers with an emotional connection to their own lives, for, as he points out, "a coming-of-age novel is like a coming-out novel, but for straight people." The book reads quite fast, with just over one-hundred pages, yet draws you in from the start and urges you to finish it in one setting. It is a deep novel that hurts to read and fully understand, yet provides a sense of guidance and acceptance, as you are reading, knowing that the author had the ability to grow up out of his troubled youth and share his story.

I absolutely love this book, but it will be set aside for a very rainy or cold day because it is so very, very intricate. I would consider myself an advanced colorist, but every picture in this book deserves much time and attention. Like most of us, I'm not always in the mood to color something so intricate. When I am, this will be my go-to book.The pictures in this book are absolutely stunning. They will just take great time and care to color.I am waiting for the Chihuahua version to come out!

I already had the Yorkies Go Around the World and was enjoying it, so I had to get this one as a gift to let a friend of mine enjoy the fun, international scenes with the dogs. It's a great way to relax! Very fun images!

...I decided to buy this book. After all, the other Magic Lantern books were so well written and informative, I reasoned.I reasoned wrong! The writer clearly understands the many technical details of the SB-28, but utterly fails to communicate his knowledge in any remotely understandable way.A fine effort wasted, I'm afraid.

Do not believe the promises made in the opening pages of this book. They are unfulfilled. Despite early protestations that this book will be better than, and different from, the instruction manual -- it is barely more than a bad rehash of the instruction manual with confusing additional information thrown in.When the author asks that "due to constraints of time and cost" we should excuse the "artistic and aesthetic aspects" of his illustrations, we should sense that this was a 'quick and dirty' effort. Forget the "time and cost" for photography! How about investing some conceptual and organizational thought -- and concern for the reader? (Isn't that what we are paying for?) In fact, this looks so 'quick and dirty' that it seems like different people actually wrote different parts, with little communication, and with no visible editorial control. Furthermore, the illustrations are often unrelated to the text. When related, I have seen many illustrations elsewhere that illustrate the point in the text much better.The book contradicts itself in places. For example, on page 30 it is claimed that "the SB-28 uses a combined CONTROL OF flash energy via flash duration and FLASH OUTPUT ..." [emphasis, mine] and then on pg. 140 we read "To my knowledge, complex electronic CONTROL OF the actual FLASH OUTPUT is presently not used by any camera/autoflash mode ...". Since the context of these two sentences make it explicitly clear that the points being made are completely contradictory, one begins to lose faith in the veracity of other claims in the book.I read this book from cover-to-cover, twice, thinking it was my fault. What a waste of time! Even with my Ph.D. degree, I could make little sense of the author's intent. A bunch of facts thrown together and often repeated several times throughout the book, with little useful organization or explanation, poor illustrations, and no index. I found myself trying to re-write the book as I fought for understanding.You should not have to buy a book like this and then have to re-write it in order to understand it.Save your time and money.It gets one star, because I can't give zero stars!Do not be tempted by this bad apple from the (usually good) 'Magic Lantern' barrel.

I purchased this book with the hope that it would provide me with greater insight into using my SB-28. Ha. I don't think that I have ever come across a more confusing, ill-conceived book. It's enough to make one want to go back to flashcubes.The book is poorly organized--headings and topics pile on top of one another without purpose or reason--at least none that I can discern. The explanations often leave one hanging, longing for more detail or at least greater clarity. Frustrating? Let me tell you. I would definitely NOT recommend this book. I only give it one star because zero stars isn't an option.

I purchased the SB-28 flash in Switzerland and wanted a guide in the English language. I already had a fair understanding of the flash and the various modes, but I still had a few outstanding questions that I hoped this book could answer. The book just confused me and raised even more questions. The author's run-on sentences and poor grammar made for difficult reading and comprehension. The examples did a poor job of demonstrating the author's point and often had nothing to do with the text.Save your money and get your questions answered at the many online resources available. If you must have this book, I will sell you mine.

First, the book was supposed to be ready by March. Then, all through April it was still supposed to be ready by March. Now it's May, and the ad says "June 30th." I wouldn't trust that if I were you. The sad thing is, this book is really necessary.

Typical of Magic Lantern guides, this one does not disappoint. An excellent companion to the owner's manual, it also covers most of the capabilities of the predecessor flash units (SB-24, SB-25, SB-26) in Nikon's line of top flash units. Mr. Huber thoroughly details all of basic and advanced modes. He also includes a comprehensive review of the basics of electronic flash and gives recommendations on how to deal with specific situations.

Advice: Don't buy it! Cons: Confusing, less useful than the instruction manual
