If you want a reference text, do not buy this. I am sorry I did. To me, it is worse than useless, because it contains only half the information contained in the previous (5th) edition. As a result, if I have a patient care quandary and need detailed information, I need to rely on the previous edition (or better, other texts). Then, I need to try to find what little has been added and updated in this edition. By abridging a good reference text, this continues a terrible tradition of recent American Psychiatric Association publishing, whereby the most recent editions of its Textbook of Psychopharmacology (Schatzberg) and Textbook of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Dulcan) have all been severely abridged. What were decent reference texts are now survey or review texts - without being identified as such. These texts may be useful for medical students or prospective examinees wanting to read through for a review, but they are NOT suitable for practicing psychiatrists. One hopes that the American Psychiatric Association is not intentionally trying to dumb down the practice of psychiatry, but that seems to be an inevitable consequence of what is not just an APA mistake but their ongoing policy and practice. I would throw all of those texts away - except that I hate to destroy books - and paid good money for them.

Don’t waste your money. Since the publication of DSM-5, the APA has published updated versions of several textbooks. I have purchased 3. The textbook of psychiatry, textbook of psychopharmacology and the textbook of neuropsychiatry and clinical neuroscience. I have previous editions of all 3. All 3 of the newer editions have been cut down in size and scope, between 39 to 60%. They are more appropriately described as primers, books for beginners. Very shallow. Another way to put is to say they have been “dumbed down”. They are no longer sources of useful information for practicing psychiatrists. The textbook of psychopharmacology was especially disappointing; it doesn’t provide enough details that it can used to guide prescribing.

Not as detailed as Kaplan and Sadock's Synopsis. I have a copy of both books. Some topics are not covered in details in this book but nevertheless, a useful book. For example, Delusional disorder, is barely covered and there is pretty much nothing and no treatment suggestion of the condition. I had to go to Kaplan and Sadock's Synopsis to find better coverage on the topic. For the price, you would think that they would do a better job. The text is well written and well organized, however. DSM-5 all the way. But not worth the heavy price tag. The book can be read cover to cover without much difficulty. Not as intimidating as Kaplan and Sadock's Synopsis in that regard. I strongly suggest buying the question book, as well. The learning is much more fun that way, with both books together. hope this review helps. Good luck.

I have bought other 5 minute stories, so I was really hopeful. Nearly half the book isn't "story", it's just facts about the PJ masks, not easy to read at bedtime. The other stories are ok, but really it's half the bedtime stories I expected, so I'm pretty bummed.

I bought this book for my daughter (2 1/2) for Christmas. She absolutely loves it. I love the 5 minute books because you get a nice variety of stories for a good price. It’s especially helpful when your child gravities to the same book night after night because you can read from that book, but have a different story to read

These are basically the entire first season in short story format. Great for bedtime. I think I’ve read this whole thing about 39 times but it still makes my PJ mask fan happy. It’s not amazing and it adds nothing to the show but, it’s not a screen.

This reads like a movie script, but the pictures are great and it only takes about 4 minutes to read each story so I'm getting a great bang for my buck!

Bought this for a 3-1/2 year old boy who loves PJ Masks and he loves it! Great for story at bedtime as the stories are just about the right length to keep attention. My 5 year old girl loves it just as much.

3 1/2 year old grandson loves. Perfect time of stories. Very nice.

My grandsons are huge fans so of course this book was huge hit!!!

This is where I found issue. According to him, I can NOT be a Christian because I am a Repulican. He states, empirically, in his Facebook pages that is is absolutely impossible to be both. This greatly disturbed me. I even had to question, because of this belief, whether his biblical teachings could be accurate. I have decided to turn it over to the Lord, & pray for Minister Fortson. He desperately has a gifted writing style; & the message of this book is crucially important. The Bible clearly states that where strife is, there's confusion & every evil work. I pray he will let go of his bitterness; & run like the wind from strife!

Her clear and colorful photos can make even the least imaginative of us know just what it felt like to be in that moment with these warm, wet, sandy, bundles of happiness. Flipping through the pages gives me the exact feeling I get when I walk my own dog on the beach. That whatever is going wrong in my life, at this moment, with the sun sparkling on the water, my dog running with abandon after her ball, fur wet and sprinkled with sand, the world is full of wonder and fun and peace if we have the eyes to see it. Even if you aren't able to experience any of this for yourself...this book comes pretty darn close.

I have been a fan of Lara Jo's Regan's work for over 17 years. My love affair began with her muse Mr Winkle. A precious little pup who could light up your heart and put a smile on your face no matter what kind of day you were facing. I looked forward to getting his calendars all these years to have at home and work. They ALWAYS brightened my day. I have and LOVED every one of her books on Mr Winkle, Dogs in Cars and other calendars she has done. I was excited when I found out she had new book out titled Dogs on the Beach. This is a delightful step into a world of our furry friends frolicking and basking in what better place than the beach! Lara Jo is truly gifted at capturing the joy of the moment in her photographs. As with all her work each photo in this book is a treasure. In this hectic and sometimes stressful world it is a welcome respite to sit down and relish each fun and thoughtful snapshot of our furry friends. This is a must have not only for dog lovers but all wanting to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. As with all the things she has published I can not recommend this book highly enough.

Four paws up (the max of course) for Dogs on the Beach by Lara Jo Regan. I had just lost my dog to cancer the week before and was looking for a good ‘dog’ book to soothe my dog blues and Dogs on the Beach was just what I needed. I have great if sad memories of taking my pooch Baxter to the beach in Santa Cruz (and who looks a lot like Beasley) and this book did a great job of visualizing the beach from a canine perspective. Great photos, great scenery and of course great dogs. Regan is clearly a highly skilled photographer and her both her expertise and her love of animals is abundantly clear. This book will be appreciated by anyone who has ever taken a dog to the beach or even watched the dogs of others. Regan makes us all realize that it really is a “Dog Meet Dog World” out there.

I am SO impressed with the quality of this product in terms of its sturdiness, durability, how its feels to turn the pages. I'm also a huge fan of Lara Jo Regan's photography and didn't expect anything less than the best. As across much of her work, she again manages to encapsulate something of the human spirit here in this series of dogs on the beach. It's magical, humorous, poetic and, oh, so much more....mostly, it makes me long for a day at the beach, lol. I swear I see myself, my daughter, my friends in these dogs and their delirious enjoyment of the waves, wind and grit. Already a coffee table hit with my friends, these pictures fill the room with laughter and surprise at how such moments were captured. Gonna buy another to give my mother who lives in AZ, far from any coastal romp, but misses Santa Monica, where she grew up. I know she'll love this. I only wish these pictures were in postcard form so I could send her a different beach scenario each week LOL.

This is a visually stunning book—for lovers of dogs and admirers of beautiful art books in general, which is really what this book is. The author chooses her subjects with such care and thoughtfulness: I loved not only the lush photographs in the book (all adorable and whimsical dogs anyone would fall in love with), but also the layout of the book, which was clearly designed with a high level of detail and attention. The author knows her craft well— she has mastered the art of photographing the dogs in beach environments that bring out their most defining and cutest features, and she highlights their personalities in such a fun and endearing way. I fell in love with this book—it will grace my coffee table for years to come.

About the Author

NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON earned his B.A. in physics from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in astrophysics from Columbia University. His professional research interests are broad and include star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structures of our Milky Way. Tyson was appointed by President Bush in 2001 and 2004 to serve on committees studying the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry (published in 2002) and the Implementation of the United States Space Exploration Policy. He has also served on the Advisory Council for NASA. He is a monthly essayist for Natural History magazine and has published nine books, including the best-selling Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries. He also is the first occupant of the Fredrick P. Rose Directorship of the Hayden Planetarium. CHARLES LIU is an astrophysics professor at the City University of New York's College of Staten Island, and an associate with the Hayden Planetarium and Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He earned degrees from Harvard and the University of Arizona, and held postdoctoral positions at Kitt Peak National Observatory and Columbia University. Together with co-authors Robert Irion and Neil Tyson, he received the 2001 American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award for his book One Universe: At Home in the Cosmos. What a fantastic book about a whole bunch of stuff! I will be reading it in Neil deGrasse Tyson's voice, along with a little Chuck Nice sprinkled throughout. I love the podcast and am absolutely loving this book!

I bought this for my 9 year old grandson who reads at 6th grade level. He loves it.

Great for both adults and young people. As usual, Tyson delivers an interesting and easy to read discussion of the universe.

It was a birthday gift for my grandson who happens to love it. A very good book for kids to get them interested in space and the universe.

This book is full of facts and written and illustrated in a way that appeals to kids. My 9 year old is excited to read it and so am I. We love Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Really easy to read. Not only beautiful to look at but also quite fascinating. Made a great gift!

Maxwell's approach to qualitative research follows two basic lines: constant, systematic reflection; and iteration. His proposition is consistent with ethnographic approaches to research, but people with a heavier leaning towards quantitative methods may find Maxwell's propositions hard to find. Particularly, because he claims that self-reflection requires the researcher to be forthcoming about her own emotions, not only her thoughts. This position contradicts empirical approaches that claim the researcher should be purely rational. Perhaps the author could also expand his methodological framework by incorporating other aspects in the formation of the theoretical framework, such as the life experiences of the researcher and the inputs from the research participants. Overall, the book is a great introductory resource to qualitative research. I highly recommend it.

The book arrived on time and was appropriately packaged. No problem there.As a doctoral student at the stage of preparing a dissertation proposal I was eager to read this text because of the last chapter on research proposals. The author did not disappoint.After only a first cover to cover reading of the third edition I was able to get three important takeaways (organization tools) which I’ve already started implementing: design mapping, using matrices and developing a proposal argument.I find the book extremely useful because it addresses the principle of coherence from not so much from a writing skills perspective but from an integrative research design perspective. In fact, this is consistent with the subtitle “an interactive approach”.Both the tools and the design map of the book (goals, conceptual framework, research questions, methods and validity) helped me see what the key elements of my project are about, how to put them together and why they are important.Throughout my first reading I felt like the author was speaking to me personally and trying to walk me through qualitative research design process holding my hand yet leading me to a point where I wanted to do (and have started) the exercises so I could develop my own argument and let go of his hand at some point.This is all any student of research (let alone qualitative researcher) could hope for.

This book taught me what two years of graduate school didn't. It was great for coming up with ideas for research designs beyond the typical focus group or interview. I used it for my master's thesis in journalism. For every example, it offers information on how to justify your use of that method in your defense.

This book helped me understand what research is about and gave me confidence in how to read and understand research journals that used qualitative methods.

Maxwell is amazing and somehow makes qual research design conversational in this book. Very easy to read and understand.

One of the best qualitative books I own yet. Provides a visual aid and thoroughly discusses the interconnection of each component (i.e. research question, goals, data collection and analysis, and theoretical framework) of the research design.

Not an easy read but definitely necessary for the educational researcher.

This is an awesome book. I love how everything is easy to understand. I love the way the author laid out the details and explained concepts. The examples are very helpful & so are the diagrams. Also, the fact that the book is small makes it approachable even though some of the material may be challenging. I would recommend this book to both students learning qualitative design for the first time and professors who want a good book for their students.
