I can honestly say I did enjoy it.Now I don't normally like reading this type of book.I normally cringe at explicit scenes.The difference with this book is it was written inan innocent sort of way.If you take out the explicit scenes it's likereading a teenage angst diary.I found it funny, enjoyable and eye opening.I will put the next book on mywant to read list.I love the sarcasm and dry humorbut I can understand why it won't be everyone's cup of tea.I give it 5 out of 5I love a book that can make me laughand still have a good story line.Yes I know it isn't really believable!

No, just no. When I downloaded this series to my kindle before leaving on a long European adventure, I was reminded of the old saying “if everyone else was jumping off a bridge, would you?” I like sex. And god help me, I liked Twilight. Mostly I loved Wuthering Heights, the book that inspired Twilight and then, this. But, Christian Grey is too young and one dimensional to be that twisted. Even to be a billionaire—it would help if she actually interviewed one. Anastasia is a simpleton, through and through. One thing the book gets right—these two really belong together. I tried to turn off my intellectual understanding and proceeded to take it at just porn-level—but even the love scenes failed to titillate. I only weep for all the trees that were destroyed due to this book.

He's had 15 women in his high-end S&M leather room but he's not woman savvy, he couldn't detect Ana was a virgin telling me women use and have used him, he's rich, so gold diggers would gather, those who think sex is the key give his brand of kink a try though I think money is still the moral of that story telling me more in that he is an innocent not the worldly womanizer. Enter Ana, a bone-head giving naive a whole new meaning. After incredible sex, passion beyond passion, intimacy like nobody's business, she can't talk to him without being self conscious? Each encounter is new? Seriously? interestingly enough it's evident intimacy doesn't live here, it's not personal it's business though Ana has him doing things he said he wouldn't like make love, but she's so self conscious with him, embarrassed, uncertain, after the first night that bond that should've been there ain't. There are secrets most likely, but I'd rather Gabriel Oak and Bathsheba's Madding Crowd. I began skimming through sex parts, his erection, her orgasm, kinky things we say in the heat of and made a decision. I'm putting Shades of Grey on the shelf. Maybe some other time or not and we don't need to have Paris. I read this 2nd book in the series and watched the movie as well. Truth be told, I thought the movie was done well. The pacing was good, but the thing that struck me the most was that Anastasia had grown stronger dealing with Christian, which was a good thing. She starts out as this young virgin I had a tough time buying but her growth as a human being was great in the second book. I love erotica and while this isn't quite what I generally read, I have to admit I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the book and the movie.

They have a lot of explicit content. This does not bother me, but some may not be comfortable reading some of the scenes.Overall, I think I enjoyed the books. I read them quickly, and read all three, and found them hard to put down. Not sure my inability to put the books down were for the reasons the author would appreciate. Let me explain.First the graphic sex scenes captured my attention in a "passing a car accident" sort of way. There are toys, several apparatus, and an entire room in this series devoted to BDSM. BDSM is not my preferred genre of books or sex, so this was a new world for me, and it had a hold of my attention, much the same way that passing a terrible car accident might. I wanted to see what had happened to cause the accident, completely out of morbid curiosity, all the while I hoped that no one died and that I didn't see blood as I passed.There was a story hidden in all of the gratuitous sex though. The story did not seem like the focal point of of the story, so it seemed mildly lacking, as it appeared the sex scenes had more effort put into them than the rest of the story. The plot/story, if read on its own and skipping the sex scenes, may not have been able to stand on its own, or may be completely empty and boring. I would not suggest that the reader skip the scenes, no matter how gratuitous, as they are an integral part of the story.I gave this series three out of five. I enjoyed it. I learned things that I was not looking to learn. There is whole other lifestyle out there that I have zero experiences in, and these books showed that love can exist even in these lifestyles, despite what so many believe. I could not give this book a four or a five star rating though because the story line was so empty when the sex scenes were removed. The story should have still been good with or without the BDSM, but this one, in my opinion, could not have stood on its own.

Michael Shenefelt has a doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University and began teaching logic after having worked previously as a newspaper reporter. I enjoyed and learned a great deal from this book. In a lively and nuanced manner, the authors discuss the evolution of logic as a discipline from Aristotle's categorical syllogisms to Chrysippus's propositional logic, to symbolic logic of John Boole and Gottlob Frege, to fuzzy logic of Lotfi Zadeh--making the case that each juncture in the evolution was informed by socio-historical and even environmental factors, such as the geography of Greece that, according to the authors, gave rise to Athenian democracy (which in turn gave rise to logic) or the Industrial Revolution of the mid-nineteenth century that spawned symbolic logic. This historicized approach adds a human component that is often missing in the usual history-of-idea approach to the development of logic. Their discussion shows that authors' own epistemological leaning is foundationalist.

"If A, Then B" is a readable and thought-provoking book on the social history of logic. It shows how developments in logic (such as the analysis of validity or the study of induction) reflected and were shaped by social and cultural changes (such as the rise of Athenian democracy or the emergence of modern science). Some of the explanations seem pretty conjectural (hence my four-star rating), but the book is definitely fun and worth reading. It would be a perfect gift for a college student who has just completed an introductory course in logic.

The number of books available on the history of logic appears to be quite small, so one does not really have much luxury in choosing which ones to read. In any case, I bought this book hoping for an in depth coverage of the history of logic, which this book partially fulfilled.The quality of the writing is high and the book is easy to read. There isn't any overcomplicated technical jargon to be found in the book anywhere. The word choice is simple and clear and mercifully isn't like the pretentious diction of certain more academic sources.I did learn some interesting things about the history of logic that I didn't know, such as the role of the Stoics in early logic just to name one example. The coverage of the meat of logic itself is quite light and requires no technical knowledge from the reader whatsoever basically.In all these respects the book was good and worth while. However, there are three essential problems with the book that detract from the good rating I would have otherwise have given it. They are as follows:(1) One of the core marks of distinction of the book (one of its core selling points supposedly) is how it tries to connect the broader social conditions of the various times and places with why logic developed in that time period.The problem is it doesn't actually do a convincing job. The vast majority of the authors' claims in this regard are essentially little more than "correlation is not causation" fallacies and historian fallacies and are not sufficiently justified. It may or may not be true that these social conditions caused logic to develop, but except for insofar as a higher quality of life gives society more free time, the connection felt weak and I was not convinced.(2) While the breadth of the book is good, it's depth is shallow in some respects. It covers the ancient logics well, but while it does mention the non-classical logics it does so only briefly. It would have been interesting to see more coverage of the lesser known branches of logic. If you're looking for in depth history of the less popular branches of logic you will not find it here. The mainstream logics are well covered though.(3) This book sometimes contains some light religious overtones (specifically Christian) that I found quite irritating in a book that is supposed to be about logic and history. For example, within the very first paragraph of the 1st chapter the authors say "The apostle Paul says three things last (faith, hope, and love)..." and by doing so implicitly assumes that the reader is a Christian (or at least the writing has that tone), as if somehow being Christian is the default assumption for all human beings.If you pay close attention to the text and the reference notes you will notice a subtle pro-Christian bias in numerous places, even though the authors try to sound unbiased. None of it is in your face, but I still found it annoying. Religious pandering has no relevance to a book on logic nor any rightful place in it.I found the final chapter (titled "Faith and the Limits of Logic") to be particularly cringeworthy. In it they basically try to argue in favor of the tired old epistemological "How can we know? Therefore blind faith" nonsense popular among many philosophers. They imply that logic, math, and science somehow rest ultimately on faith assumptions with respect to their axioms and premises. That is inaccurate.Axioms and premises in the logical and scientific disciplines are based primarily on blatantly obvious empirical observation in the real world. For example, the axioms defining addition are defined as what they are because that is how addition empirically works. Contrary to the authors' assertions, there is virtually no "circularity" or "faith" in logic or science.Modern logic and science simply refuse to deal with absurd epistemological questions like "Are we all a part of a computer simulation?" because such questions are unfalsifiable and hence always worthless to ask. No logic could ever answer impossible questions, but that is not the fault of logic but rather it is the fault of us flawed human beings for choosing to ask such pointless questions in the first place.Furthermore, be aware that the authors are both philosophers. Neither are historians. Neither are mathematical logicians. As such, their authority on the subject matter is questionable. The book reads half like a history book and half like arbitrary arm chair philosophizing.Since there aren't many books on this subject however, and the book still has redeeming value, you might still want to read it anyway. I would not advise taking everything the authors' say at face value though, however well intended they may be.

The authors attempt to review the history of logic in a social context. They fail because their social history is so simplistic to be embarrassing: as if there are single social causes for complex intellectual trends. They do seem to know their logic, but readers should be aware that if they already do not know the concepts this is not the place to learn sophisticated logic for the first time. When the authors (who are trained philosophers) get to their discussion of philosophers I can only assume their confused analyses of such as Wittgenstein and Kuhn reflect some arcane minority views. The philosophy is certainly not for the beginner – to the mid level reader such as myself it just seems wrong.I am a book hoarder, but even I could not justify keeping my copy of this book from ending in my town recycling dump, so off it went.

The main title has enormous promise; the sub-title less so. The contents of the book, however, are disappointing, as the book does not keep to the title. The historical escursions detract from the suggested or implied title, which is that it could have been a book about conditionals, another term for "if then" or "If A then B." As for the sub-title, that could have read "how the logic of "if then" could have beeen discovered or invented. I think that at one time, the author, Michael Shenefelt, may have worked for the Philosophy depaertment at the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University. Bertram Bandman aol.com

Given as gift to people who relocated to Connecticut. They are thrilled and will start to use this as a go to guide.

we live in broad brook, connecticut and this is the first year we've had kayaks. in the early summer we met a woman on the scantic river near the somersville dam and she recommended this book. best tip of the year. there are so many great paddles in here that you'd never know about just by looking on a map. we'd been driving around, shooting in the dark, and mostly being disappointed by what we found. every paddle we've taken out of the book has been excellent. can't recommend it highly enough.

Love these authors. Great book to Pick up and choose a place for the weekend paddle. Need to cross reference directions.

Fun book to have in your car for random and impromptu trips

It is the bible for us quiet water paddlers. My only problem is that I keep loaning to friends who never seem to return it. This last order of two copies makes my fourth and fifth copies of the book...

Another great paddle. Others have borrowed this book and then went ahead and bought it.

I still have yet to explore most of the rivers, but love the format complete with maps and interesting info.

It could have been more comprehensive as it does not include all available water worth paddling in the areas listed.

This book is good. I followed the plan for three weeks. The recipes are good and filling.

So informative but make sure you read the book before starting. They provide you with alot of good resources and material. The whole30 is flexible and has so many health benefits to it.

This book is very good book about 30 days whole food cookbook.This book provide everyday meal plane very well..Highly recommended book.

The Whole Foods Cookbook is fantastic. The beautiful pictures and healthy ingredients make me want to try every recipe. I cooked their author recipe for my husband and he loved it. Highly recommended!

i would have given this a five star, but there was a piece of the inside cover taken offk looks like with a razor, so it wasnt brand new and perfect. what a shame

I do like the infused water recipes and a few others. Many are fish recipes and as I do not enjoy fish, shrimps, etc probably a quarter of the recipes are not for me. Overall it has much to offer if you are a less picky eater than I am. I am happy to have this book on hand for options and inspiration for the detox, but not thrilled.
