I gave this as a gift to my Halo-loving 17-yr. old son, so this review is based on what he said about the book and a few things I noticed about it.This is one heavy, big book, about the size of a coffee table book. It's rich with very good illustrations and nuggets of information, some of which my son wasn't aware of. What some of the others have said is true; this isn't a book that contains a lot of Halo's back story or goes into a great deal of information about weapons, characters, maps, etc., that an experienced Halo player wouldn't already know.Truthfully, this is better compared to a dictionary than an encyclopedia. Generally speaking, not much more than a page is dedicated to a lot of Halo's mechanics, and as has been already said, since the author of this is also the author of some Halo novels, there's a pretty focused point of view that sacrifices the fuller experience of the Halo Universe.This is a nice book to page through and pick up a fact here and there; as I mentioned, the illustrations are well done and in the end, the thing that saves this book from just being something you look at once and toss on the shelf. Considering the upcoming release of Halo: Reach this fall and what will surely be the continuation of the series for a while, this book is going to be outdated quickly.I still think this is a nice gift for the Halo fan that absolutely has to have everything (or nearly everything), but for the casual player that isn't interested in much beyond playing the game, they probably could skip this and not really miss anything.
When I heard about this product, I immediately purchased it without hesitation. I was worried at first that I didn't think about it first and it wouldn't satisfy my expectations. When it arrived at my home(which arrived 3 days before estimated delivery)I was surprised by its size and flipped through some pages just for fun. I'm a little over half way through it now and it helped so much through confusion of the story and has led me to believe where and what Halo 4 could be about, but I could be wrong. It's very entertaining to learn more about this fictional story and so much detail has been put in it. If you get this book and read it, you'll be surprised by the Covenant's past and their alliance species "cough",Hunters,"cough" It truly is a magnificent piece of Halo. Very well put together. Defiant recommend and if you call youself a true Halo fan, you must buy this.
If your looking for more information about the Halo universe, this is the book to get!Ever since I played Halo 2 I was hooked to its story. And I wanted to know more about their earth, how the Spartans came to be, how did the Covenant start, what types of armor etc. The list goes on. I've played all the games ( except ODST didn't care for it much) and was smitten with Halo 4. Now this book only goes up to Halo: Reach which should be expected because this book came out during that game so. The pictures are beautiful! one picture in particular took my breath away which consisted of Master Chief and Arbiter. Either way, if your in love with Halo and need to get a fix, this book needs to be on your shelf NOW!
This is a must have for any crazy Halo fan like me. I can't get enough Halo. I love the store have all the books art work, and buy as much Halo things as I can. With that said this book has everything Halo from time lines to art work. To everything ever put in a game or book. All guns ships cars humans and covenant. Everything Halo.
For anyone who has any interest in the Halo universe, this is a must-get book. Detailed descriptions and photos of all the major characters and villains as well as an extremely detailed history of the Haloverse, this book probably has more information than anyone could ever need. I expected it to be merely a nice 'art of' style book, but it surpassed my expectations in every way; you could probably even use it as the sourcebook for a role-playing game, it's that detailed and thought-out. Well worth your money if you have any interest in the Haloverse at all.
I bought this for my nephew for Xmas. He's a big Halo fan so I thought it would be something he might pick up later in the day once things calmed down and he'd played some of his new Xbox games. Boy, was I wrong! He sat in the corner with this book for almost an hour and had to almost be dragged back to open more presents. The graphics/artwork in the book are so gorgeous, I even bought one for myself once I saw his.

The book tells you anything and everything that you want to know about the Halo Universe. There are a lot of works of concept art in the book, along with in-game screen shots.
