About the Author
JOEL S. GOLDSMITH (1892-1964), a monumental teacher of practical mysticism, devoted most of his life to the discovery and teaching of spiritual principles which he founded and called The Infinite Way. After the publication of his seminal book, The Infinite Way, in 1947, Joel traveled throughout the world as a teacher and a healer. Although Goldsmith's message was neither organized nor advertised, students of The Infinite Way increased in numbers. Today, a worldwide student body exists which continues to practice and preserve his work. More than thirty books have been compiled from his tape-recorded lectures and classwork including: The Infinite Way; Practicing the Presence; The Art of Meditation.

This book is made for reading again and again, as are all of his books. Read them, apply the teachings to your daily life, and watch everything change! "Behold; I make all things new."
While this is an important work, what Goldsmith leaves out, starting with the fifth paragraph of chapter one (quoted below), is that his "God-experience" came through the Christian Science treatment given to him one Saturday by a dedicated Christian Science practitioner, whereby Goldsmith was healed not only of a bad cold, but of drinking, smoking and other bad habits; he relates this himself in another of his books. Goldsmith went on to study Christian Science for years until he became a very successful Christian Science practitioner before leaving (forced out by unscrupulous Christian Scientists jealous of his success) to start The Infinite Way.His, initially, claiming that his first "God-experience" came out of the blue is disingenuous, to put it mildly. He owes a great debt to the many years of consecrated study, to the work, and to the "teaching" (see Goldsmith quote below) of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, a true mystic if there ever was one. It was the "teaching", the "principles" and the "laws" explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures", by Mary Baker Eddy, that brought about his "God-experience", after he pleaded with the Christian Science practitioner to see and treat him because he was so sick (the practitioner usually reserved Saturdays solely for study, which quite impressed Goldsmith)."This Experience brought with it no message, no words, no rules, nor were any principles given: there was just an experience that could not be described. Whereas in one moment I was like every other human being, in the next moment my body was well, and many undesirable human habits were gone. I found that a healing power was present and that I was on the threshold of a whole new life. The old life was dead; a new one had begun, but without a teaching, without any principles, without any laws-all this just because of an experience."Goldsmith backtracks on his statement that "When you examine the lives of the mystics, you will find that that [God-experience] is what happened to them. Not one of them ever studied to become a mystic: each one had an experience, and that experience changed his life," when he writes later: "Probably without the reading that I had been doing in the Bible and the Christian Science writings, and without all those years from 1909 until 1928 in which I was breaking my heart and head trying to find God, the Experience might not have come to me." Probably? Definitely.What it all boils down to is that, at some point, if one does not encounter a dedicated practitioner (as Goldsmith did) who is able to facilitate one's God-experience (and they are mighty hard to come by these days), one has to put down the books one is studying and have one's own God-experience. ðŸ™
