He is the author of the bestselling book Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper (2011). I am a recent convert to the Faith from Protestantism. I read hundreds of book along the way that convinced me the Catholic Church was the Church founded, and maintained, by Jesus Himself. Along the way, Brant Pitre’s books have been absolutely invaluable. This book is no exception.I cannot recommend Dr. Pitre’s newest book, “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary: Unveiling the Mother of the Messiah” too highly.I pre-ordered this book months ago, given my love for the Jewish origins of the Faith. I received it today, and finished all 200 pages in an evening. It was THAT good, and THAT provocative. Highly readable, learned, full of all sorts of sources and connections you rarely hear cited or made. Unfortunately, ignorance reigns in this arena. Pitre does a brilliant job of dispelling the myths, and articulating the Truth.Especially for Protestant friends, I cannot recommend this more. This is an amazing book, and it will help Protestant and Catholic alike recognize Mary for who she is: Mother of God, the Mother of all Christians, and the Queen of Heaven. These titles are all deeply biblical, as Pitre brilliantly illustrates.A+/100%

Brant Pitre is an author I enjoy for a number of reasons. I believe he is still down in New Orleans where my lateuncle Clarence used to teach, so that's a cool connection. You might say he's like the new Scott Hahn, althoughScott is still around, but he's not a convert but a re-convert. So this book corresponds to some of the themesin Hail Holy Queen, but others are developed more than the further book. Interestingly, in the list of thanksthere's Edward Sri, who has released a similar book at the same time. I do find Pitre's literary style to flow verywell, which can be tough in the area of scholarship.There was a comment on p. 180 that I found important. "In this book, we've seen lots of remarkable connectionsbetween the Old and New Testaments, and (I hope) shed some important light on key Christian doctrinesand practices regarding the mother of Jesus. But at the end of the day, it's important to remember thatMary is not a doctrine or a dogma, but a person. She was a real, living human being who, like all of us, hadto walk the long journey through this valley of tears. However exalted her status may be as the new Eve,the new Ark, the new queen mother, et cetera, Mary is still a human woman who knew what it was tosuffer and have sorrow".I thought that passage picked up on an important point just when the book was getting a little abstract.It's always a challenge to find the right balance when you're trying to do so many things with a book,with just the right amount of scholarship and piety to reach the various audiences. But the book did itvery well, with a good mix of personal stories, and scholarship from a wide range of patristics, Jewish,Orthodox, Protestant including evangelical, and a wide range of Catholics (e.g. Crossan who wouldbe a little out there).I found the book just got better as it went along, with the sections on the cross, the woman clothedwith the sun, and the Rachel connection being outstanding. The latter was perhaps the most interestingbecause I hadn't heard much about it before, and even Pitre I think says it's kind of speculative butit was beautiful.

What a book! Without a doubt, it's one of the best theological books ever written on the Virgin Mary. It doesn't deal with Marian devotional practices or other pious aspects associated with Our Lady, but that was not the intention of the book. As soon as the book arrived in the mail I did a quick look and immediately realized I was holding a masterpiece. Needless to say, I had to spend the rest of the day reading it. It's so so good. Thank you, Dr. Pitre, for being such an amazing scholar, theologian, and Catholic. We need so many more like you. I'm extremely grateful and I'm sure Jesus is very very pleased with what you have written about his dear mother. God bless your soul!

This might be the best book I have ever read. Brant Pitre does an amazing job showing how to see Mary through the lens of the Jewish faith as well as comparing the Old Testament to the New Testament. This is a great book for Catholics as well as Protestants who are interested in learning about Mary, with no shortage of examples from the Bible. Everyone needs to read this book!

In his latest book, Dr. Pitre once again takes the reader on a journey of rediscovery. I say this because, as he states in Chapter 5, none of this is new! The biblical evidence behind Catholic and Orthodox Marian theology is undeniable as Dr. Pitre once again leaves no stone unturned. His ability to cross-reference the Old and New Testaments with extra-biblical writings of both early Christianity and 1st century Judaism illustrates the continuity of Christian teaching from the Garden of Eden to the Parousia. Catholic or not, this book provides the reader with an authentically Christian perspective through which to see the Mother of the Messiah as the early Christians did.

This is a reprint of the original 1930's lathe manual, including old-style drawings and plans.The instructions are clear, and common-sense, and tell the new South Bend lathe owner how to set up the lathe, and basic operations. The terminology and vernacular is definitely Old School.I enjoyed reading it, because it took me back to another time. If you need in-depth instruction on lathe operation, or complicated projects, then this won't do.It's a basic lathe manual, but no shop is complete without it.

This is a reprint of a very old manual for South Bend Lathes. As a new comer to lathe work, I wanted to start with the basics so I bought this book based on reviews here. I also bought other books. This book has layouts on how to use things other than electrical motors directly connected to the lathe to turn it (think large belt and pulley system used around the turn of the 20th century and on). It even describes how to use a gasoline enging to turn the belt system. Those things aren't really usefull in this day and age, but were informative. I suggest a new comer who just wants to know how to use a modern lathe, skip this book and start with: How to Run a Lathe: The Care and Operation of a Screw Cutting Lathe Paperback – September 11, 2013 by John Joseph O'Brien (Author), Miles William O'Brien (Author), South Bend Lathe Works (Author)http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1614274746/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1Its an older and basic text that pays homage to the old ways, but is more pertinent to today's home garage lathe worker.

I purchased this to replace the copy I purchased from Lindsay Books many years ago (loaned it out). This is a much earlier reprint than the version sold by Lindsay. In contains much of the same information; however, I prefer the editions from the 30's - 50's, while this one is from 1919?.Even this edition is better then most other similar books; however, the later/better editions are also still available from other sellers.

Be advised the copyright date is 1914 so the majority of the information in this book is a little outdated.

Just as beautiful and original like her other books. Same clean creative drawing style. Complex and simple subjects. This is clearly a book made with love for adult colorists. Good paper, binding and hardcover as always. Coloring pencils, gel pens, posca markers (India ink) and pastels are welcome. The girls are adorable and while I’m coloring them, in my mind, they are always queens, princesses, warriors, divas… Equally delightful are the kittens, dogs, birds, mice, butterflies and bugs that inhabit these pages. I share with you some of my colorings done on my copy of the Swedish edition book. Every time Hanna launches a new book I say it’s my favorite! I may be an adult, but I find coloring to be such a great stress/anxiety reliever. When you're coloring you can let your mind go blank, and forget about everything. I've been coloring in adult coloring books for a few years now, and I have come across some really amazing books. However, Hanna Karlzon is 100% the best. No one is even close when it comes to how well she puts together an adult coloring book. I own all of her coloring books, I believe there are five, and then a couple little postcard type books as well. I love her coloring books so much that I put this one on preorder 6 months before it was even published and shipped to me. If you are looking for a new coloring book, than you should definitely be looking at hers. I just got this book a couple of weeks ago, so I haven't really done a lot of pictures, but that is slowly changing!I'm attaching two of the pages I've colored in this book so far. One that is done, and the other is almost finished. I am in no way trying to show the world that I am a great colorer...haha....I'm definitely NOT artistic; I just like to color. :)

If the images were only printed on one side this would be 5 stars. However as they are printed on both even with the thick high quality paper, you may get issues with color transferring to pages that lay together or if you use gel pins with bleed through on reverse image. There are a few images that go across both pages to be complete and because it is bound it is a bit difficult to color where the pages meet at the binding.a fThe images are wonderful and unique. While I personally prefer smaller scale, more complex images, these are without question a blast to color. There are quite a few "people" in the images so if you don't care to color real people you may not care for this one. There are also a few birds, cats and dogs as well as other animals.

I anxiously awaited the release of this book as I have all the other Hanna Karlzon's books and love them.. I guess I was expecting pics of jewelry boxes, jewelry and related items. Unfortunately, the pics of these items are limited and the majority of the pics are very similar to her other books, with flowers, animals, girls, etc. It's still a beautiful book, with quality pages and binding but I was hoping for jewelry related pics!

This is one of the best coloring books I have purchase. Why? Because one the paper is great it can hold up to any coloring median. This is a two page ( Both sides have pictures on it). So I tested out markers and to my surprise it did not bleed through ( plus I found out I don't like markers in coloring books). All brands of pencils will work well and gel pens. The drawing of the women faces are beautiful. And the other details like animals ,fragrance bottles and flowers etc. are done with lots of details. So I'm taking my time because this is a special book that needs attention to what colors you will choose and what accents you will bring out using gel pens. I really like this coloring book.

I love the book, but I am starting to regret my purchase only because it seems to be the same pages over and over.

I LOVE LOVE Hanna Karlzon color books. Hers with a couple of other artists that use the heavy paper & hardcover that helps protect your artwork are the very best for your money. I’ve done art all my life & I’m SO addicted to coloring. My hope is that my grans will like flipping through my books and enjoy seeing what their Neenee colored. I love the house drawings & added one I just started.

I love the designs. The pages are sufficiently thick that I can use markers (staedtler) without the ink bleeding through to the other side. I also like that the pages are small enough to complete in one or two sittings but still intricate enough to be fun.

Through the critical analysis on Locke, the author concludes with two important points. First, Locke was not successful to justify private ownership by the notion of equality in the State of Nature. Secondly, based on the discovery that Locke failed to justify private property, the author put forward that the Lockean theory, though at the first glance be classified as individualist, "Locke's service as an apostle of individualism was merely part of his service as an apostle of collectivism." Okay here it goes....I started off REALLY loving this series. It was the first time in a very long time that I was really excited to find a book that I was totally captivated by. But after a while, there are so many unbelievable dynamics that develop that I can't keep overlooking them. After the last few books, I was actually excited to see Frost taking a risk by introducing a character like Gregor and the dynamic that she was introducing. I felt like this was going to be the turning point that made things exciting again, but at the end when it came down to it, I felt like she backtracked. Cat is by far the best character in this series and it's like Frost just wanted to make her a love sick puppy who throws out her better judgement. Cat is a headstrong hero, she doesn't take nonsense from anyone. So when she refused to stand up for herself especially during one pivotal moment, I just couldn't justify any of her characters actions anymore. There were so many opportunities for the characters to communicate, but it seemed that the perpetual misconceptions and intentional disregard for one another just served as a plot device to get the characters where Frost wanted them to be. So for a series that started off strong, I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with where it ended up.

WOW, that's what I can say about this book. If u haven't read the other 5 books first before this one then u will not understand what I'm going to say and for those who have then u will. I had to stop off and on during the first part of the book because I was very upset what was happening and what I thought would happen, then it happened in the middle and I was heartbroken, mad and very upset about it. I could not put the book down, I was obsessed, because I wanted and hoped that what I was thinking was going to be wrong, but I didn't know and had to find out. And in the end I was so relieved that my heart was not broken anymore. I tell u Jeaniene Frost, u had me in a rage in this book, so heartbroken and it was in such suspense that I could not stop reading. Very good book and I hope the other ones does not do this to me again.....

What just happened? Books one through three were all solid five star books for me. But this one was almost intolerable...I'm not going to spoil the story for everyone else but suffice it to say that I cringed through more than 50% of this book. Bones and Cat were constantly at each other's throats. Sorry - but that's not romantic - or enjoyable. Bones was almost not even recognizable in this book. And Cat took annoying, stubborn and stupid to new levels. When Bones cussed her out about 3/4 of the way through I wanted to give him a high five.For my part, I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if (1) it had been edited down for all the scenes that really did nothing to move the story along or seemed overly dramatic / unnecessary and (2) Bones and Cat had worked more together than against each other.It seems to me that this book could have achieved its main objectives (not going to spoil it - you'll know what they are when it's done) without all the antagonism between Bones and Cat. Really - it killed the romance - left me feeling blah about these two. That's so sad, because I adored these two together in the first three books. Their actions seemed way too out of character.All I can is that I'm glad it's over and I can move on to the next one in the hopes that Bones and Cat work together again and not against each other.

Enter an evil, power-hungry vamp named Gregor. Turns out, Gregor has visions of the future, and he saw how powerful Cat would become a long time ago. Apparently, when she was sixteen, Gregor glamoured Cat’s mother and whisked her off to Paris to marry her. Master vamp & Bones grandsire, Mencheres, who also sees the future finds out about Gregor’s plan. Mencheres rescues the teenage Cat, buries all memory of Gregor and imprisons the evil vamp. (Are we supposed to overlook the fact that Cat is supposedly immune to vamp glamour?) Now, over a decade later, Gregor escapes custody and wants his bride back.Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? That’s what I thought too. In fact, I started this book and got distracted by JR Ward and took my time coming back to it. I do have to say though that it gets better. By the middle of the book, my emotional investment into the characters was coming back. By the time it got the scene where Bones leaves Cat, I felt like my heart was getting ripped out. One thing that Frost does very well is capture the emotion in her characters and Destined For An Early Grave nails it, even if the plot didn’t.Overall, I give Destined For An Early Grave…Plot – 1 bookmark (Beginning implausible, but some good stuff at the end if you can hold on for it.)Character Development – 2 ½ bookmarksFight Scenes – 3 bookmarksLove Story – 3 ½ bookmarks (Saved the book in my opinion.)Dream Cast (otherwise known as who I pictured while reading) – Didn’t change since I reviewed the first book. The cover model on the book (Cat) & David Anders (Bones).

It is fine if you are looking for something near the beginning, like Morning Prayer, but cumbersome for anything toward the middle or end. However, there are other easy ways to navigate through the book.First, if you use Kindle's search feature and search for the word "quick" (without the quotes), you will see numerous Quick Navigation indexes and can choose any you want: Page Numbers, Collects, Psalms, Canticles, Prefaces, Litanies, Sentences of Scripture, Confessions of Sins, Other Prayers, or Common Services. Each is an active index. If you go to the Psalms index, for example, you can select the number of any psalm and immediately arrive at it. I have bookmarked several of these indexes and can now get to them in a snap.Another navigation option is searching for page numbers. The numbers in this Kindle edition are coordinated with those in the current standard edition. Thus, if you have access to a paper edition of the BCP but would rather read on the Kindle where you can adjust the font to a comfortable size, you can note the page number of any often-visited page in your paper edition and then search for it with Kindle's search feature. For example, Prayers and Thanksgivings starts on page 810. If you search for "p. 810"(without the quotes and with a space after the period), you arrive there in a jiffy. (I have found it is quicker to enter numbers by simultaneously pressing ALT and the appropriate letter on the top row of the Kindle keyboard than by opening the "Sym" page.) You can also choose the Quick Navigation index for Page Numbers on the Kindle and select any number to go to that page, though this particular index is a bit long because the BCP has more than 900 pages. An additional interesting feature is that page numbers, formatted in light gray, are sprinkled throughout the text, so you can see what page you are on. I have bookmarked the pages I often visit. Navigation to them is now simple.All in all, this edition of The Book of Common Prayer quickly becomes easy and comfortable to navigate. While using the Kindle during a church service might be distracting, this edition is very nice indeed for prayer at home or while traveling. I am definitely glad I have it!

I have two Kindle versions of the BCP, both the one by Episcopal Church and Christian Miracle Foundation Press (EC for short) as well as the one by Church Publishing (CP). I feel like they each have pros and cons, and I'm happy to have both. I'm placing this same review in both locations.I prefer the formatting in the CP; it's a bit cleaner. However, the EC includes the page numbers which, while it can be disruptive while reading, certainly helps me to find a particular page quickly.The Table of Contents in the CP is short and easy to navigate while the one in the EC is very long and takes forever to get through. So the CP TOC will get you to a general area of the book, while the EC TOC will get you to exactly the spot that you want. I don't use the TOC often because I just bookmark all the main spots that I want to get to quickly.One thing that I love about the EC is that in the Daily Office Lectionary, the Psalms readings are hyperlinked to the Psalter, making it very easy to move back and forth between the two sections of the book.Both books occasionally crash the Kindle app, but it does seem like the CP version does it more often.If I had to choose only one (which, realistically, I should have), it would be the EC version. I find that its pros outweigh its cons, and it's less than a third of the price of the CP version.

who can NOT like the Book of Common Prayer. Non-believers can like this book. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that it is a Kindle edition and it is hard for me to navigate. It is highly possible, being a 65 year old luddite, that I just don't know what I'm doing. You know what Episcopalians say: I believe the Bible is God's Word because it is quoted in the Book of Common Prayer. Seriously, when I have problems, some of the prayers held "in common" come into my memory. When I am down I remembers that God, ". . . is the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy." That is a cool thing to remember when you are feeling cursed. I like it that the prayers have been carefully crafted, gone over for several hundred years, and repeated by millions. These are prayers we all hold in common, and they are not hillbilly prayers full of "Well God we just happy to be here with ya" prayers. The prayers are short, focused and beautifully crafted. The services are there if you want to study them, to know them. This is a book of prayers for all people to share, they are prayers held in common.

I've always loved The Book of Common Prayer and really enjoy having it on my Kindle. But, this version is a little difficult to navigate and if I ever have to back arrow more than once, I get taken to my Carousel, rather than to the Table of Contents, or wherever I started from.
